The Thai Food and Drug Administration is warning consumers to avoid taking Viagra or any other erectile dysfunction (ED) drug.
The FDA is also warning patients to read labels and to ask their doctor before taking Viagra or any other ED drug, including sildenafil (Viagra).
Viagra, or sildenafil, is a medication used to treat erectile dysfunction (ED).
A study published in the August issue of the journal PDE5 found that Viagra was not as effective as a placebo, in men who were taking a daily dose of sildenafil.
The researchers at Bangkok's Phuket University said they found that men taking Viagra had a 50% higher chance of achieving a successful erection when they took the drug.
"Viagra has been on the rise since it was first approved in 1998," the researchers said in a statement. "Although it is effective for some men, some people need to be concerned about possible side effects."
They also found that taking Viagra increased the risk of a heart attack in some patients.
The drug is not approved for the treatment of ED.
"ED can be a serious medical condition, especially when there are underlying conditions that may make intercourse less appealing," the statement said. "This is why doctors and pharmacists should be on the lookout for any potentially life-threatening effects of taking Viagra."
In January, a Food and Drug Administration advisory panel to doctors and pharmacists recommended that patients take sildenafil for the first time before sexual intercourse.
It's not known how many patients taking the drug developed serious side effects.
Sildenafil citrate, commonly known by the brand name, is a prescription-only medicine used to treat erectile dysfunction (ED) in adult men. It works by improving blood flow to the penis, helping to achieve and maintain an erection during sexual activity.

“Men over the age of 40 over the age of 50 have a new erection,” Justice Bootsermanent said in a statement. “They have a positive response to a drug and are satisfied that their sex life is improving, and therefore are taking the next steps to improve their self-esteem and improve their self-worth.”
